THE Mayor of Craigavon has condemned the ‘cold-blooded murder attempt’ on Saturday in Kilwilkie.
DUP Councillor Carla Lockhart said: “This undoubtedly was a blatant murderous attempt on the part of dissident republicans.
“This latest attempt by these cold-blooded individuals has outraged the people of Lurgan and further afield with the good people of the area absolutely disgusted at their behaviour.”
“This was an attempt to lure our security forces into a trap and ultimately kill and injure them.
“I would commend the PSNI for all the good work that they do in trying to restore law and order and in administering the rule of law.
“These individuals have got to realise they have no support. The decent people of the area do not want these evil attempts. To plant a bomb in a built up area with people and children going about their daily business is utterly ludicrous and we could very well be dealing with serious injuries or indeed the death of a citizen or a member of the security forces.”
“I would encourage anyone who has any information to come forward to the PSNI so that these people can be thwarted and face the full rigours of the law. Likewise politicians representing this area need to tackle this problem and not just purely give lip service in condemning it.”
