Good turnout for jobs fair with 450 vacancies on offer

1,700 attend Craigavon Job Fair'Over 1,700 people have attended the Job Fair held on Thursday 5 February at Craigavon's Seagoe Hotel. The event, which was free and open to all, was organised by the Department for Employment and Learning (DEL) in conjunction with Craigavon Borough Council. Over 40 employers were in attendance with over 450 vacancies on offer. Advice and guidance was also available on a range of training and re-skilling opportunities. Major employers with jobs available included Almac, Omniplex Cinemas, Teleperformance and Fane Valley. Over 1,700 people attended the Job Fair held on Thursday, February 5, at Craigavon’s Seagoe Hotel.

The event was organised by the Department for Employment and Learning (DEL) in conjunction with Craigavon Borough Council. Over 40 employers were in attendance with over 450 vacancies on offer.

Advice and guidance was also available on a range of training and re-skilling opportunities. Major employers with jobs available included Almac, Omniplex Cinemas, Teleperformance and Fane Valley.

Pauline Millar, Deputy Director in DEL’s Employment Service said: “I am especially pleased to see job opportunities across a wide range of employment sectors at this event.

“This Job Fair and Advice Forum brings employers, support organisations and jobseekers together under one roof. Clearly these events demonstrate employers are seeking to recruit staff and that there are employment opportunities for jobseekers.

“A range of support organisations, for example DEL’s Careers Service and Employment Service, were present to provide individuals with information, advice and guidance on a range of training and employment schemes.

“These can assist individuals progress towards work and better employment prospects, equipping them with the skills to compete in the labour market and meet the needs of employers both now and in the future.”

A series of employer presentations from a number of organisations including Almac, Southern Health and Social Care Trust and BT also took place at the event.

”The presentations provided information on the type of jobs on offer, how to apply for current positions and the type of person the organisation looks for in a potential employee.

Kim Nesbitt, Recruitment Manager at Almac Group, commented: “The Job Fair and Advice Forum gave us the opportunity to interact with potential applicants and allows our recruitment to be more targeted within the local area. This event demonstrates that DEL, Craigavon Borough Council, local employers and training organisations are working in partnership to help jobseekers find the most appropriate route into employment and enable employers to recruit a skilled work force.”
