The Southern Trust’s acute hospital network – Craigavon area and Daisy Hill - has been reaffirmed as one of the UK’s Top Hospitals for the fourth consecutive year.

The national CHKS Top 40 Hospitals programme recognises acute sector organisations for their achievements in healthcare quality, improvement and performance.

The Top Hospitals award is based on the evaluation of over 20 key performance indicators covering safety, clinical effectiveness, health outcomes, efficiency, patient experience and quality of care.

Also this year, as well as being placed in the Top 40 Hospitals, the Southern Trust was shortlisted for the first time ever for the CHKS National Data Quality Improvement Award.

Congratulating staff on this year’s award, Southern Health and Social Care Trust Chair, Roberta Brownlee said: “Each year in our very busy hospitals, there are approximately 370,000 outpatient appointments, 117,000 Emergency Department attendances, 56,000 inpatient admissions and over 6,000 births.

“While managing over half a million patient contacts each year, our staff are committed to delivering a very high standard of care every day, for every patient. We like patients and clients to be at the centre of all that we do and pay particular attention to listening and learning from service users so that we are continuously improving their experience.

“We are committed to promoting a culture of excellence within the Southern Trust and this recognition once again reassures all of our patients, carers and staff that their hospital is amongst the best in the UK. I would like to pay tribute to every member of staff working in our hospitals who has played an important role in achieving this award and am delighted that their commitment and dedication has been rewarded in this way.”

Jason Harries, Managing Director, CHKS said: “These awards recognise outstanding performance in those areas which we believe are critical to delivering good patient care. We are delighted that the Southern Health and Social Care Trust is one of our Top Hospitals 2015.”

The CHKS awards are the only data-driven healthcare awards in the UK and have unrivalled credibility. The awards are considered a significant coup for winning hospitals which have benefited from wide-ranging positive coverage in local, regional and trade media.
