The party leader and outgoing first minister referred several times to Mr Adams claiming his personal agenda will now be carried forward by the party's new leader in Northern Ireland, Michelle O’Neill.

“Make no mistake, that this election will be very close. So come election day, Sinn Fein could have enough votes to be the biggest party, capture the first minister’s post and push to implement Gerry Adams’ agenda for Northern Ireland. Just imagine what that would mean for our way of life," Mrs Foster told a packed press conference at Brownlow House.READ MORE: Adams in firing line as Foster launches DUP election campaign
