Kelly hits out over
inquest delays

A High Court decision to award damages to the families of six men killed by either police, soldiers or loyalist paramilitaries is “a damning indictment” of the PSNI, according to SDLP MLA Dolores Kelly.

Ms Kelly, a member of the NI Policing Board, criticised the Chief Constable for failing to deliver closure to the victims’ families because of his refusal to ask for additional resources to prepare files for coronial inquests.

Ms Kelly said: “The families of Patrick Pearse Jordan, Michael Ryan, Fergal McCusker, Neil McConville, James McMenamin and Stephen Craig Colwell deserve answers.”

She said ‘the Past’ must be dealt with on a moral and ethical basis.
