Lennon congratulated

THE Mayor of Craigavon has congratulated Lurgan man Neil Lennon on winning the Scottish title.

The mayor was speaking at Monday’s mid monthly council meeting. The Lurgan man who played for Crewe Alexandra and Leicester City before joining Glasgow Celtic also received praise from Sinn Fein’s Johnny McGibbon.

Councillor McGibbon said Neil Lennon’s first title win with the Scottish giants was “another great success story for the borough”. He suggested Craigavon Borough Council should come up with some form of recognition for Neil Lennon whose family still live in Lurgan.

Mayor of Craigavon Alan Carson said: “The congratulations are totally deserved. It’s a excellent achievement to win the Scottish league.”

Later in the meeting the mayor took the opportunity to congratulate Manchester City on winning the English title. Mr Carson, himself a City supporter, took great delight in reminding his council colleagues of his team’s first league title in 44 years.

Also in receipt of congratulations at Monday’s meeting were St Paul’s GAC who opened their new facilities last week.

Sinn Fein Councillor Mark O’Dowd said: “This is a great example of how as a council we can work in partnership with other bodies to achieve great things.”

He said he very much enjoyed the game between Armagh and Down to officially open the state-of-the-art facility, especially the result, given that his team (Down) won.

SDLP’s Joe Nelson said he didn’t enjoy the result as an Armagh man but was very impressed with the new facilities.
