Waringstown man Alistair Bushe has been appointed editor of the News Letter.
The 38-year-old, who has edited the Portadown Times since succeeding David Armstrong in 2007, started in his new post on Tuesday. It brings to an end more than nine years’ service with the Portadown Times.
He joined the paper as deputy editor in 2006 after a period as a senior reporter with the News Letter, and previously the Times’ sister paper the Ulster Star in Lisburn. He was also cricket correspondent with the ‘MAIL’ and for a number of years provided our Glenavon coverage.
He is succeeding Rankin Armstrong who is retiring after a distinguished career across Northern Ireland’s daily newspapers.
“Rankin is a hard act to follow but I’m looking forward to getting started, and to developing a truly multi-platform publishing operation from our redesigned newsroom in Carn.
“It is an exciting time for the News Letter and for our range of weekly titles as we begin to work together more closely than ever before.”
Alistair paid tribute to the “hard-working and talented staff” at the Portadown Times: “I’ve been proud to have been editor of the Portadown Times for the last eight-and-half years. It’s a paper that will always been close to my heart.
“The staff are not only hard-working and dedicated, but they are talented enough to work at any level in journalism.”
