Sarah Walker, who is soon to become an octagenarian, has been nominated as a Person To Be Proud Of for her voluntary work with the Gateway Club.
The Lurgan woman, who turns 80 in October, has been a volunteer with the Lurgan and Portadown Gateway Club for adults with learning difficulties for upwards on 30 years.
She first volunteered with the club after her daughter, who had also been involved with the club, told her of an opportunity of lending her assistance.
“It’s great,” she said. “You get a laugh and meet some really wonderful people.”
Sarah gives tirelessly of her time every week in a cheerful manner and is loved and respected by all members of the club. For the past few years she has also been a volunteer with the Young Stroke Group.
The person who nominated Sarah said: “I truly feel that Sarah is a person for Lurgan to be proud of and deserves to be recognised for her work over the years.”
