The position of Chief Executive of the new Armagh Banbridge and Craigavon super council is at the short listing stage.
The three current Chief Executives, Teresa Donaldson (Craigavon) John Briggs (Armagh) and Liam Hannaway (Banbridge) are all in the running along with at least five others, it is understood.
Around 30 applications vied for the post which will be one of the biggest positions in local government in Northern Ireland.
The post was advertised at the end of November and more interviews are expected to take place this month.
The Chief Executive of the new ABC super council will be responsible for the largest population area outside Belfast with a salary in the region of between £105,000 and £120,000.
Newry, Mourne and Down’s new Chief Executive will receive a similar package while the remaining posts across the eight other areas will be paid between £95k and £110k.
