Fines totalling £580 and a 12 month driving ban were imposed on a Moira man last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for motoring offences.
He was 33-year-old Lovell Godson, Waringmore, Moira, and he admitted the offences which happened on November 8 last year.
For taking a car without the owner’s consent he was fined £100, with a £15 offender’s levy, and banned for 12 months while a similar fine and ban were imposed for not having a driving licence.
Godson was fined £200 and banned for 12 months for not having insurance and fined £90 for contravening a traffic sign.
Fines of £30 were imposed for not displaying ‘L’ plates, driving unsupervised and defective light.
The court heard police saw him drive through a red light at Church Place in Lurgan and spoke to him in a nearby car park.
The car belonged to his mother and when police spoke to her she said he had taken it without her permission.
Mr Gabriel Ingram, representing the defendant, said Godson’s mother had been out that night in Lurgan and he had taken the car to go to the gym.
He added that the defendant was going past where his mother was and stopped to give her a lift home.
