A man who tried to head-butt a police officer was given a suspended prison sentence last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.
Thirty-eight-year-old Martin Neil Ward, Drumellan Gardens, Craigavon, was sentenced to two months in prison, suspended for two years, for assault on July 8 last year.
A consecutive one month term, also suspended for two years, was imposed for disorderly behaviour.
The court heard police went to Drumellan Gardens where the defendant was causing a disturbance. He was verbally abusive to his mother who asked for him to be removed from the property.
Ward became hostile to police and said ‘Collie Duffy’s going to get you’ while making a gun gesture with his hand to police.
He also attempted to head-butt one of the officers.
The matter had been deferred from August and since then Ward had not come to the attention of the police.
His solicitor said he had problems with alcohol and this incident was fuelled by alcohol.
He added that Ward intended to continue staying out of trouble.
