£17k bill to repair the village war memorial

COSTS to repair Waringstown War Memorial have soared from £14k to more than £17k and work has not even started.

Craigavon Council initially estimated that work to repair the external concrete on the memorial would cost around £14,000.

However internal structural problems have been discovered.

Currently the lowest tender for the work stands at £17,165.

At present a contractor has not been appointed.

A council spokesperson said: “In preparing the tender documentation for the works further investigations revealed internal structural problems which were then included in to the scope of work for the tender.

“Tenders have been received and are being considered with the lowest tender price being £17,165. The increased cost is being met through existing budgets. At present a contractor has not been appointed to carry out the work.”
