A joy for Vera

LOCAL author, Vera Smith, is launching a new book to help people who have suffered bereavement..

'Joy in the Morning' aims to help the bereaved and is the result of years of Vera's ministering to the broken hearted.

Vera has had many other books published but she describes this latest addition to her catalogue as the most emotionally draining and soul searching.

She said: "I am often asked how long does it take to wrote a book, and the answer is a lifetime - even that is too short."

Vera said she could never have written the book had it not been for the help and support of a host of friends.

Joan Wilson was one of those. She lost her daughter, her son and husband in a short space of time. Vera spent a morning with her and learned of the courage and strength she used to cope with at a very difficult time.

"Joan's experience helped me to see there is a future for the thousands of individuals who are hurting because of the loss of dear ones," Vera continued.

"Death has hit the majority of our homes, it has no respect for age. It leaves us with the emptiness and loss that changes our lives and gives us a different set of values."

Vera gave Joan a copy of her book as a thank you for her input.

Joan wrote Vera a congratulatory letter which she has kept as a token for her support.

In it Joan wrote: "Congratulations on compiling such a useful and comforting book for the bereaved people. It is beautifully presented, I love the verses and Barbara Hunter's sketches. It will be such a blessing and guidance for many people who have been bereaved."

Vera started publishing in 1985, with the launch of a poetry book 'The Smile of Truth'. This was followed by a second poetry book two years later. She also has another two books 'The Spirit of Giving' and 'Daily Gems of Truth'.

Vera will be signing all her books along with Mayor of Craigavon, Alderman Sidney Anderson, at Eason in Rushmere on Saturday, November 29 at 2pm.
