A MAJOR pipe band competition could be staged in Lurgan Park this summer.

Craigavon Borough Council are hopeful that their bid will be successful after, with unanimous support, they forwarded a bid to the Scottish Bands Association would see a pipe band contest held in the park this year.

Mayor of Craigavon, Councillor Carla Lockhart, and Upper Bann MLAs Sydney Anderson and Stephen Moutray met with the Scottish Pipe Bands Association at Stormont this week.

The DUP trio said: “We are extremely hopeful that our council bid will be successful. Meeting with the representatives has given us a flavour of what a great event it would be for the borough of Craigavon. We have and will continue to lobby for this prestigious event.”
