DOBSON TOPS POLL

THE UUP'S Jo-Anne Dobson topped the poll in the Lurgan by-election today.

The Waringstown mother-of-two polled almost 64 per cent of the vote.

She received 2,494 of the 3,903 valid votes, beating her nearest rival, the TUV's David Calvert by over three-to-one.

Senior Ulster Unionists were on hand to offer their congratulations to Jo-Anne.

She said: "I am delighted, the support has been fantastic."

Jo-Anne thanked her family and the party for supporting her bid, she added: "I will be concentrating on the regeneration of Lurgan and helping to attract new business to the town."

David Calvert polled 752 votes, Sinn Fein's Liam Mackle received 401 with the SDLP's Pat McDade receiving 256.

Some 3,936 votes were made, with 33 declared invalid. The total votes represents just over 23 per cent of the eligible electorate.
