Escorts exposed

AS revealed in the ‘MAIL’ at the start of November - a number of escorts are operating in the local area.

Details of Northern Ireland’s ‘Red Light Neighbours’ were published in last weekend’s Sunday Life.

They included the names and addresses of women involved in the sex trade across the province, including an English escort in Magheralin and a Portuguese woman operating in Lurgan.

In November the ‘MAIL’ was contacted by a local gentlemen concerned that an escort was operating in the Magheralin area. The man said residents were concerned about the number of visitors to her property and claimed her clients include a prominent figure in the community.

When investigating the man’s claims the ‘MAIL’ learnt of a number of escorts based in the vicinity including one in Lurgan and one based close to Junction 9 of the M1.

Upper Bann DUP MLA Stephen Moutray has called for action to be taken following fresh revelations about prostitution in the area.

Stephen Moutray said: “I am aware from press reports of activity of this kind right across the Craigavon area including locations in Lurgan and Magheralin and indeed one of the named brothels is allegedly operating within close proximity of a place of worship and local school.

“I have been contacted by local residents who are understandably alarmed at this. Incidents of this kind have been on the increase for some time.”

The MLA added: “There are growing fears that many girls are victims of people trafficking, also that some are underage, but also that many are being exploited by criminals which is totally unacceptable. I would urge the local community to be alert and to report any suspicious activity to the PSNI.

“Whatever the circumstances of any individual establishment what is needed is that where a crime has been committed it should be investigated thoroughly and where possible charges should be brought forward. I am meeting with senior PSNI officers in this regard later this week.

“We need swift and firm action from the authorities against this illegal trade. We also need to bring public attention onto premises where this is occurring.”
