Family hit out at 'smear campaign'

A LEADING County Armagh business family has called in the police to investigate a smear campaign against them.

Derek Harrison, Joyce Estate Agents and the company owner Jayne Doherty have all been victims of the campaign and have made a formal approach to the police in Portadown.

The situation came to a head when some of the allegations appeared on the Internet.

A spokesman for the family said: "This has been going on for over three months and we will no longer tolerate it. The allegations about business and family issues are totally unfounded and malicious but more and more people are mentioning them to us and we were left with no option but take action.

"There is no doubt that there is an orchestrated campaign against us. The allegations are hurtful and spiteful and could have a detrimental affect on our business, which would affect a number of people.

"We have given all the details to the police and asked them to investigate the matter. We have also approached our local MP, David Simpson, and asked for his support in dealing with this matter."

One of the sites on which allegations were posted has now removed the claims and said: “As a result of a request from King & Gowdy Solicitors acting on behalf of Derek Harrison, Jayne Doherty and Joyce Estate Agents Limited, the owners of HousePriceCrash.co.uk wish to confirm that we have removed posts 6042,6043,6044,6051,6053 from this thread, which allegedly contain defamatory information about the above.”
