Lurgan schoolgirl dies after falling into sea

A YOUNG girl has died after falling into the sea near Portballintrae on Sunday.

She was 11-year-old Bethany Cousins from the Wood Lane area of Lurgan.

She got into difficulty at Bushfoot Strand which runs eastwards from Portballintrae towards the Giants Causeway.

The coastguard assisted in recovering the young girl from Runkerry Beach just after 2pm on Sunday.

Ambulance personnel worked at the scene in an attempt to save her life. She was brought to the Causeway Hospital in Coleraine where she died on Sunday night.
