Second man arrested on suspicion on animal cruelty

A second man has been arrested following the burning of a three year old dog near Maghaberry.

Earlier a 21-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty after Codie the pet dog was found with severe burns last week.

Owned by the Agnew family, Codie was doused in a flammable liquid and set alight.

The long-haired Collie’s coat was completely singed with patches of just skin and raw flesh. Her eye was swollen and red and her snout was red raw.

At first, the family vet was not sure if the dog would survive the ordeal - but the latest updates show he is making progress with the help of strong pain relief.

The arrested man is currently assisting police with their enquiries.
