Spray is not the way

CRAIGAVON Community Safety Partnership is combating graffiti throughout Craigavon and encouraging young people to play their part in safeguarding their neighbourhood.

The newly launched ‘Spray is not the way!’ campaign encourages local young people, who are involved in spraying graffiti throughout the Borough, to express their creativity and talents in more inventive ways.

The initiative includes a number of creative workshops for young people to attend were they can interactively learn more about art, music and multi-media, benefiting both the young person and the local environment.

Funded through the Department for Social Development’s Neighbourhood Renewal Investment Fund the campaign also includes a series of billboards and advertisements which will be springing up across Craigavon to help remind young people how destructive graffiti can be and encourage them to become involved in the workshops.

Chair of Craigavon Community Safety Partnership, Councillor Michael McGoldrick, said: “This campaign provides an excellent opportunity to combat this type of anti-social behaviour which can have a massive impact on our local communities.

"By taking a proactive approach to the problem, we can create a cleaner Craigavon and actively encourage these young involved to use their artistic talents in other ways.”

The Minister for Social Development, Alex Attwood, said: “This is good news for residents in these areas. This will help improve the environment in local housing estates and will go some way to enhancing the overall physical appearance of these areas.

"It will also help to create safer more attractive neighbourhoods where residents will want to live and bring up their families."
