Time to Talk with Sarah Cavanagh

BLEARY woman Sarah Cavanagh is quite happy to be called a witch.

You're probably thinking black cats, broomsticks and spells, but Sarah's idea of witchcraft is very different.

In this warts 'n' all interview she tells the 'MAIL' how she's proud to be a pagan.

Sarah who has lived with her family in Bleary for over 20 years describes herself as a witch, Tarot reader and psychic.

"I kind of think it's time we dismissed the Christian myth around the word witch," said Sarah.

"They think of it as someone evil instead of someone who is environmentally friendly, nurturing and holistic.

"Being a witch to me means observing the rhythms of the planet - the seasons, the full moon, the solstice, the equinox, being sensitive to people, plants, animals and not being so materialistic and hedonistic."

Although Sarah retired some years ago she has returned to Tarot reading in the past year, due to requests from clients.

Most of her time is spent pursuing her interest in paganism and new spirituality. Sarah also performs rites of passage for naming, passing, weddings and affirmations of love.

As far as being a psychic was concerned Sarah said she was able to get fragments of information about people and events she connected with, but these often came at random.

Sarah's daughter, Ruth Norton, a teacher at Brownlow College, often takes part in readings with her mother.

"There's been a real interest in the readings we've done lately," said Sarah.

"It's a change from the days when I couldn't advertise because it was seen as something black and anti-religious which of course it isn't."
