EVERYONE in Lurgan knows it and now it's time to prove it to the rest of the world, Lurgan Park is the best in the UK!

The race is on to find the nation's favourite park and Lurgan park needs your vote.

The Mayor of Craigavon, Alderman Stephen Moutray and Chair of Leisure Services Committee Councillor Ronnie Harkness are urging Craigavon people to vote for Lurgan Park.

The People's Choice - Site of the Year Award, which closes at the end of August, is an annual online vote giving people the power to decide which Green Flag park from a list of more than 1,000 should receive this coveted title.

Lurgan Park was the first in Ireland to gain the prestigious Green Flag award in 2008 which is a national standard for parks and green spaces and is a real coup for this busy and breathtaking Craigavon Borough Council run Park.

"Competition for the public vote is fierce," said Alderman Moutray, "but all you have to do is visit www.greenflagaward.org.uk and click on "get involved". You will find a list of the current top ten sites and you can nominate your favourite park – Lurgan Park".

Councillor Ronnie Harkness Chairman of Leisure Services Committee said: "With both Lurgan 400 events and our normal range of activities in Lurgan Park over the summer – now's the ideal time to vote for Lurgan Park. So get voting".

Lurgan Park attracts in the region of 2,000 visitors every weekend, who come to enjoy the 259 acres including the famous lime tree avenue, the Lake, the Coalbrookedale Fountain and the general beauty of the Park. Lurgan Park is the second largest urban park in Ireland – the biggest being Phoenix Park.

The winner from each region and the overall UK winner will be announced at a national event in London in September – so get voting for Lurgan Park.

We at the 'MAIL' are also throwing our weight behind the campaign and you can vote by clicking here

In our view Lurgan Park is second to none and everyone in the town should show their pride by voting.
