WORK to combat years of flooding in the Shankill area of Lurgan was finished last weekend.

Homes in the Elmwood Terrace area had suffered badly over recent years with persistent flooding in monsoon weather.

However after intense lobbying, the Housing Executive is just about to finish fixing the problem.

According to SDLP Cllr Declan McAlinden, the problem had been excascerbated as the last gullies installed had not been linked up to the manhole, meaning excess water could not get away.

It is understood the current contractor has built a new man hole and put down concrete gullies linked to the new manhole.

Welcoming the work, Cllr McAlinden thanked the Housing Executive and the patience of the householders in the area.
