Lockhart invites Facebook friends to tea in the Mayor’s parlour

MAYOR Carla Lockhart has become the first to invite all her Facebook friends to tea in her Parlour.

The 27-year-old, who has almost 2,500 friends on the social networking site, invited them all for a cuppa and a tour of Craigavon Civic Centre.

And Craigavon’s First Citizen is hosting the event on Friday - all day Friday. And so that everyone doesn’t land at the same time there are hourly slots to help with catering.

Carla told the Mail: “It’s great to embrace social media. It’s a new way of connecting with people.

“It gives the people an opportunity to come to the Civic Centre and many people in the borough have never even been through the doors.

“It’s my aim to get as many people to the Civic Centre as possible and hear the history of the place and how they can get involved in the decision making process and connect with their elected representatives,” she said.

Carla admits she has focussed a lot of social media particularly since she was elected mayor last May.

“It’s a creative and innovative way to connect to people. The Civic Centre has for too long been that building away out in Craigavon. I want to open it up to the people,” she said.

And she revealed that already around 40 people have signed up for a cuppa and a tour. “And they are all ages as well. Not just young people,” said Carla.

There are hourly slots for people to come from 11.30 am, 2.30 pm, 3.30 pm, 4:30pm with each slot expected to last an hour.

So if you are free on the 22nd and want to call over for tea with the Mayor – just contact the Mayor’s Secretary Susan Parks in the Mayor’s Office on 028 38312 403 or email her on [email protected] and book your time slot.
