Became abusive as he sought police help

When he was the victim of an assault, a 22-year- old man walked into Lurgan PSNI station asking police to get him ambulance.

But he became aggressive and used abusive language which ended in him being arrested.

Stefan Duffy, Killough Gardens, Lurgan, admitted disorderly behaviour on May 15 when he appeared at Craigavon Court. He was given a conditional discharge for 18 months.

The court heard that at 6.30am, Duffy pushed his way into the inquiry office at Lurgan police station.

He was aggressive and abusive while using ‘some colourful language’.

Duffy was warned about his behaviour but took no heed to warnings and was arrested. He was taken to the custody suite before being brought to Craigavon Area Hospital when it was discovered he had a head injury.

A barrister representing Duffy said the problem was drink combined with prescribed medication.

He explained that the defendant had been the victim of an assault in the street and he went into the enquiry office for police to get an ambulance for him.

The lawyer added that Duffy was shouting out loud and using obscenities.

Duffy also had a probation order he was subject to extended to 18 months.
