Radio Craigavon closes down after 37 years

The decision to close and dissolve the organisation came after much consideration was given to the trends in patient entertainment, the changing processes within the Health Service and the growing lack of interest in Hospital Radio in recent years.

Radio Craigavon was one of the last remaining stations in the province - with only three still in operation out of the original fourteen.

Chairman, James Kerr, commented: “It is with deep regret that we had to take this decision but there was just no alternative. The Executive Committee would like to thank everyone for their support throughout the 37 years of the Station’s existence - including the local Press who have provided a huge service to us on many occasions. Thanks also for the many donations received from the business sector, private groups, organisations and individuals throughout the years. We would also like to thank the Hospital Trust for its valuable help and support. The Station’s long and continued service would not have been possible without the support of everyone. That’s what kept Radio Craigavon in business for so long.

The last programme was transmitted on Friday 24 June when presenter Anne Angell signed off at 8.20pm with the song ‘May Each Day of the Week Be a Good Day’.
