WARINGSTOWN Primary School is celebrating after achieving outstanding success at Portadown Speech Festival.

Pupils who won gold medals are Kelly Guiney (P1), Justin Anderson (P1), Ryan McShane (P2) and John Dumigan (P5).

In addition to the four gold medals, the school’s haul includes three trophies, 10 bronze medals and 18 merit certificates.

Justin Anderson also won the Muriel Todd Boys’ Cup while Kelly Guiney won the Muriel Cup for girls. Pupil John Dumigan won the Charles Cox Challenge Cup which is awarded to the competitor who gains the highest mark for any single set piece in the primary school section. John won with 89 marks.

The school would like to congratulate everyone involved and to Mrs Usher for preparing the children so well on a voluntary basis. A school spokesperson added: “Her hard work and ability to bring out the best of our speakers gives great enrichment to all those taking part.”
