Man ‘let down’ by company

A Craigavon man fined £200 last Friday for permitting an employee to drive without insurance felt let down by his insurance company.

Michael David Doyle, Lismore Manor also received six points.

A man was stopped driving a van on the Old Portadown Road, Lurgan and was not covered by insurance. Doyle believed that anyone over the age of 25 with a full licence was able to drive the vehicle.

Defence explained that Doyle and his business partner employed eight people and he clearly remembered asking for an open policy for any of his employees.

District Judge Mervyn Bates had no doubt the defendant believed he was covered.
