Istvan Horvath, Eden Avenue, Portadown, was fined £200 last Wednesday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for not having insurance on November 11 last year.

He was also given six penalty points, ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy and fined £100 for using a mobile phone while driving.

The court heard he was seen using the phone while driving in Market Street, Portadown.

He was stopped and it transpired that he did not have insurance. He said he had bought the car earlier in the day.

A solicitor for the defendant said he accepted insurance had to be in place before a vehicle is taken on to the road.
