Twenty-four-year-old Stephen Michael Wilson, Garvaghy Park, was sentenced to one month in prison, suspended for 12 months, for possession of the drug on November 4 last year.

The court heard that at 10.30am at Magowan Buildings police saw the defendant talking with other people.

He appeared nervous and agitated when he saw police and then he handed over a small lump of cannabis resin.

District Judge, Mr Mervyn Bates, said Wilson had been given a probation order in September and this seemed to be progressing satisfactorily.

Wilson’s solicitor said very significant progress had been achieved.
