New school for Lismore

The school is one of 15 across to be built as part of an investment in the order of £170m the Education Minister told the Assembly.

For many years, Governors and staff have worked to secure a new school building at Lismore.

Principal, Fiona Kane said: “This is fantastic news for the whole school and our local community, as we are in dire need of a new fit for purpose school campus.

“I am delighted in particular for our pupils who deserve only the very best, as a state of the art school will send a powerful message to them and everyone here that the young people of this area are highly valued and their education is extremely important.”

Mrs Kane paid tribute to everyone who has worked tirelessly over the last number of years to get Lismore to this point: “In particular I would like to pay tribute to Joe Corrigan – recently retired Principal, the Trustees, the Board of Governors and retired Governors for the role they have all played.”

She thanked staff in CCMS for the assistance and support they have offered to herself and the Chair of Governors, Mrs Kate Adams to help secure this decision.

The Minister said: “All across the north there are a range of schools which are in dire need of investment. Unfortunately that need far exceeds the funding available. Therefore the schools benefiting today represent the highest priority projects which have successfully come through a rigorous selection process.”

“I remain resolute in ensuring that my investment plans will also focus on providing a first class education experience.”
