Ombudsman set to probe assault claim

THE Police Ombudsman is investigating reports of an assault in Lurgan.

It is understood two men are claiming they were involved in an incident with PSNI officers on Friday, December 28.

The PSNI said it had not received any reports of an assault in the Church Place area on that evening.

However a spokesperson for the Police Ombudsman’s office said: “We are investigating a complaint of alleged assault during an incident which took place in Lurgan on December 28, 2012.”

A statement from police said: “PSNI has not received a report of an assault in the Church Place area of Lurgan on the evening of Friday, December 28.

“The Police Service of Northern Ireland takes complaints against its officers extremely seriously.

“Police officers are expected to behave, at all times, in accordance with the Code of Ethics and where this appears not to be the case, we encourage individuals to make a complaint to the Police Ombudsman. Where complaints are substantiated, appropriate and robust action is taken.”
