A commemorative paving stone to remember Lurgan Victoria Cross winner Billy McFadzean is to be laid at his birthplace.
DUP representatives met with the Chairperson of Lurgan and Brownlow Royal British Legion, Mrs Roberta McNally to discuss a number of matters surrounding commemorations to remember the fallen of World War I.
The commemorative paving stone will be laid as part of a campaign announced by Communities Secretary Eric Pickles last year to remember the 628 VC winners of the First World War.
Mr Jeffery Donaldson MP is Chairman of Northern Ireland’s World War 1 Centenary Committee and was able to provide a further detail on Lurgan’s VC recipient.
Speaking following the meeting Upper Bann MP David Simpson said,
“In Lurgan we are very proud to recognise the bravery of Mr Billy McFadzean, a WW1 hero and recipient of the Victoria Cross (VC). The story of Mr Billy McFadzean is compelling and gives us a real insight to both his own bravery and that of the British Forces during the painful years of War.”
