Friends of a St Catherine’s College pupil who died of cancer have raised £2,615.47 for charity by holding an 18th birthday party in her memory.

Rebecca Haughey was unable to celebrate her birthday due to her illness and after the teenager’s death in September, her friends organised the fundraising event at the Auctions Rooms, Moy.

The money raised was donated to CLIC Sargent NI.

The night concluded with the release of 18 pink CLIC Sargent balloons, one by Rebecca’s mother Collette.

Heartfelt speeches were given by three of Rebecca’s friends before the raffle got under way. A variety of prizes, including a 32 inch flatscreen TV, were donated by local businesses.

Rebecca’s friends have thanked everyone who helped organise the event as well as the businesses which donated.

More fundraising events are planned in memory or Rebecca, including an Armagh Scouts coffee morning and a music event on April 8. Each week, two young people in Northern Ireland will be told the devastating news that they have cancer.
