Son of Aubrey and Cathy McShane, he has reached the final three after a couple of close scrapes in which he and Denise had to take part in the dance off.

Ryan said: “The voting is very parochial and we are up against a GAA player from Kerry and a girl from Clare. Denise is from Dublin and we will appreciate all the support we can get.”

The final takes place this weekend, with the showdown on Sunday at 6.30pm on RTE1.

Ryan mum Cathy said: “The biggest issue is getting support in terms of votes so everyone’s vote is crucial this week.”

The voting lines will open after the final couple have danced. The number is 0901 6566 004 or text Denise to 53125.

Remember your vote will only be counted in a ten minute period so watch the show for the cue to call.

Ryan said he and Denise have been practicing hard, and he’s been working eight hours a day, seven days a week between practicing with Denise and rehearsals/filming at the studios in Bray.

He added: “This has been one of RTE’s biggest shows and all the extra votes we can get will be appreciated.”

Actress Denise rose to prominence for her role as Fran’s wife and Nidge’s bit on the side, Linda on ‘Love/Hate’.

The tragic role earned Denise an IFTA for Best Supporting Actress in a Television Series in 2012.

She said: “The characters I play are strong well-rounded women, I’ve been very lucky.”
