Waringstown Branch UUP held a surprise dinner for Sam Gardiner on Friday January 27.

In recognition for his tireless work throughout the years, notwithstanding the support and help he gave Waringstown.

This was an acknowledgement by the branch and a small token of their appreciation and thanks.

A meal was held in Kingshill Orange Hall for Sam, where Jean Sturgeon, the branch’s longest serving member, presented Sam with a bible.

The Secretary Neil Harrison gave a brief synopsis of Sam’s unique long service highlighting his first election to the old Lurgan Council in 1963 and then becoming the youngest Mayor in 1968.

A measure of the esteem in which Sam was held was shown with the attendance of two past Mayors, namely Mrs Joy Savage and Mr Sidney Cairns.
