A meal was held in Kingshill Orange Hall for Sam, where Jean Sturgeon, the branch’s longest serving member, presented Sam with a bible.

The Secretary Neil Harrison gave a brief synopsis of Sam’s unique long service highlighting his first election to the old Lurgan Council in 1963 and then becoming the youngest Mayor in 1968.

A measure of the esteem in which Sam was held was shown with the attendance of two past Mayors, namely Mrs Joy Savage and Mr Sidney Cairns.
