Special visitor at Gilford church

Gilford Free Presbyterian Church will be hosting a special visitor tomorrow (Saturday) and Sunday.

Richard Bennett of Berean Beacon Ministries (USA) is a former Catholic priest who is at present travelling in Ireland, north and south.

He received his education until his late teens with the Jesuits, before he undertook eight years of preparation for the priesthood with the Dominicans in Ireland, completing his studies at the Angelicum University in Rome.

In 1964 he was sent out as a Catholic missionary to Trinidad in the West Indies where in worked in difficult conditions for 22 years. It was while there that he realised he was “not right with God”.

He said, “Eventually after a long time of inner conflict I simply came to trust in Jesus Christ alone as my Saviour.”

After having “fully embraced Reformed Evangelical Christianity” he set out on a new course. He established Berean Beacon Ministries and now travels extensively in a worldwide evangelistic ministry.

He is now 76 years of age and has pledged to speak the truth in love to Catholics and Protestants.
