St Michael’s students on the big stage

Have your say

St Michael’s Grammar School GCSE Drama students have been working hard over the last few weeks to put together their production of The Winter’s Tale for their moment of glory on Tuesday, November 12 in the Market Place Theatre in Armagh.

This Shakespeare play is most famous for the strangest stage direction ever ‘Exit, pursued by bear’. However, this half hour adaptation challenges to tell the tale of a jealous king’s presumption that his wife is pregnant with his best friend’s child. The audience will see loss, sorrow, youthful love, celebration and the healing of time.

The production has tried to focus on the simple staging requirements of Elizabethan theatre with an ensemble interpretation through dance and the joyous oracy of Shakespeare’s language.

Under the guidance of their teacher Mrs Sialianskaia students have used their lesson time to understand the plot and their characters as well as learn and understand Shakespeare’s words.

“It has been a real learning curve for a lot of these students,” said Mrs Sialianskaia.“It’s not every day you get the opportunity to act on a professional stage to a sell-out audience.”
