After he was arrested and handcuffed a 25-year-old man struggled with police and assaulted an officer.

Rami Tlili, Church Street, Portadown, admitted resisting police and assaulting a constable when he appeared last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

For the assault charge he was sentenced to two months in prison while a one month sentence was imposed for resisting police.

Both sentences are to run concurrently and they were suspended for two years.

The court heard that on December 13 last year police called at the home address of the defendant and he was arrested in respect of another matter.

When police were putting on handcuffs Tlili struggled and they went from the hallway into the back yard where he struck an officer on the right eye.

A barrister representing the defendant said he had been grabbed by the coat and his arms were flailing about when he struck the officer.
