Patrick Brian McKerr (24), Castle Lane Mews, Lurgan, admitted disorderly behaviour in Church Place on December 13 last year.

He was sentenced to two months in prison, suspended for 12 months.

The court heard that at 2am police heard shouting and swearing outside the station where the defendant was trying to fight a group of males.

McKerr was aggressive with police and started to swear as his friends tried to get him to go home. He said ‘bang, bang RUC b--ds’.

Mr Peter Murphy, representing the defendant, said McKerr had been assaulted and he wanted this individual arrested but the police ignored him because he was heavily intoxicated. He added the defendant had now got a part time job and hoped to set up his own business in handicrafts and ceramics.

Mr Murphy told the court that McKerr had not taken drink since January 1 and had stayed out of trouble.
