Time to get your running shoes on

Budding athletes and fun runners alike are being urged get their running shoes at the ready and sign up for the annual Craigavon Lakes 10km race and fun run taking place on Wednesday, June 4.

Organised by Craigavon Borough Council in partnership with St Peter’s Athletic Club, the route starts and finishes at Craigavon Watersports Centre and will take in the pathways around the picturesque Craigavon Lakes and City Parks areas.

For those participants who don’t fancy 10km, there will also be a 5km fun run and a 1km family challenge throughout the evening. The 1km family challenge is open to everyone and can be completed by running or walking. Proceeds from the event will go to British Heart Foundation Northern Ireland Mending Broken Hearts Appeal and sponsorship forms will be available.

The family fun run will kick off proceedings at 6.45pm with the 5km and 10km starting at 7.00pm.

The Mayor of Craigavon Councillor Mark Baxter comments “The event promises to be a great sporting spectacle with runners of all abilities to getting together to raise vital funds for charity, keep fit and have fun with family and friends.”

Dwyer O’Hagan from St Peter’s Athletics Club added “This is an excellent event which has something for everyone, 
from the serious athlete to those who simply wish to participate for fun”.

Gary Wilson, Fundraising Volunteer Manager from British Heart Foundation Northern Ireland said, “Nearly a quarter of a million people are living with cardiovascular disease in Northern Ireland. We’re fighting for every heartbeat and we want you to do the same. Sign up to take part, raise some money and help support all the mums, dads, grandparents and children living with the effects of this debilitating disease.”

Centre, Craigavon Leisure Centre and Waves Leisure Centre, Watersports and Golf & Ski Centres.

Please note that there will be NO ‘On the Night’ registrations at this year’s event. The check-in desks will be open at 5.30pm and close at 6.45pm.
