After taking his father’s car without permission, a young Lurgan man drove dangerously while under the influence of drink, Craigavon Court heard.
Daniel McCullough (18), Kingsway Drive, Lurgan, pleaded guilty to a series of motoring offences on March 21.
For dangerous driving he was fined £100 and banned for 18 months, while a concurrent ban and a £120 fine were imposed for driving while unfit. He was fined £250 and banned for 6 months for no insurance. A £100 fine and a 6 month ban were imposed for taking the car without consent. For not displaying ‘L’ plates and driving unsupervised he was given a conditional discharge for 12 months.
The court heard that the injured party reported damage to his vehicle which he noticed had been missing at 2.30am the night before. Mr McCullough appeared at the door and said he had been driving. A breath test gave a reading of 49 and an evidential test gave a lower reading of 33. He admitted to consuming alcohol prior to returning home.
Mr McCullough, who represented himself in court, said it was ‘just stupid’.
