THE festive season in Lurgan will be kicking off with a dazzling afternoon jam packed full of exciting events for all the family to enjoy when the town sees the Christmas tree lights being switched on in style this Saturday.
Offering everything you could possibly be dreaming of at the ‘launch’ of Christmas, wrap up warm and come down to the town and see what’s on offer.
Kicking off at 3pm, compere for the day will be renowned Cool FM DJ Conor Phillips who will make sure that everyone gets into the Christmas spirit.
A wide variety of exciting acts will be taking to the stage to entertain the crowds before Santa makes his big appearance.
Local musician Shaun Morrow will be sharing his talents as well as local band ‘Smooth’, both of whom will be singing a wide variety of music to suit all tastes and get everyone’s toes tapping.
St Francis Primary School will also be singing some beautiful and traditional carols for everyone to join in while Little Starz Dance Academy, Moyraverty Arts and Drama Society (MADS) and local youth group LINKS will all be performing dance and musical numbers to get you in the mood.
Saturday will also see the first ever Santa’s Grotto open in the town from 11am and will have to be seen to be believed.
This is sure to be a hit with the young people eager to tell Santa what they would like in their stocking this Christmas.
Mr Claus will leave his grotto later in the afternoon and make his way up the town to assist the Mayor of Craigavon, Cllr Alan Carson to push that all important button to bring the lights to life.
“This Christmas switch on is sure to get everyone in the mood for the festive season and the town always looks stunning when it is lit up,” said the Mayor.
“Make this a switch on to remember, bring the family down, enjoy the wide range of entertainment, see Santa Claus make his grand entrance and why not indulge in a spot of Christmas shopping while you are here?
“There is no better time to visit the multitude of shops and get some gift inspiration for those important people in your life.
“In keeping with this year’s Christmas theme, I am dreaming of cool, crisp weather on the day that will see the community of Lurgan coming out and getting involved in this wonderful event while spreading Christmas cheer to everyone.”
The event will run from 3pm to 6pm, with the switch on taking place at 5pm.
