A Lurgan man who tried to head-butt a police officer was fined £150 last Friday at Craigavon Magistrates Court for an assault charge.
Kevin Campbell (20), Ballynamoney Road, Lurgan, was also fined £100 for disorderly behaviour, £100 for resisting a constable and ordered to pay a £15 offender’s levy. The court heard that on December 28 at 12.50am at Ashdene Park in Lurgan police received a report of a vehicle being driven recklessly on a grass area.
They heard shouting from an alleyway and the defendant began walking towards them shouting abuse. Campbell became aggressive with police. Mr Peter Murphy, representing the defendant, said Campbell’s car had been stolen earlier. He added that his client was annoyed and upset and in his intoxicated state was abusive to the police officers. When he got into the police car he calmed down.
