Two convicted of littering offences at Craigavon Court

Two Lurgan men have been convicted of littering offences at Craigavon Magistrates Court.

In prosecutions brought by Craigavon Borough Council, Michael Bailey, 33b Avenue Road, Lurgan was observed depositing a cigarette butt from his vehicle at Dromore Road, Lurgan on April 22.

When served with a notice by Craigavon Borough Council Mr Bailey replied: “I cannot confirm the cigarette end was mine, unless the item retrieved from the crime scene as evidence matches my brand.”

During court proceedings this week he was found guilty and fined £120 plus £94 costs and £15 offenders levy.

Caomhan McAlinden, 3 Clara Street, Lurgan was observed depositing a cigarette butt from the window of his vehicle at Castle Lane, Lurgan on February 26.

He was served with a notice which he failed to reply to.

Mr McAlinden was found guilty and fined £60 for the litter offence and £60 for failing to reply to the notice, plus £94 costs and £15 offenders levy.

Two other defendants failed to appear in court on Tuesday and their cases were adjourned to next month.
