Two oil thefts in Waringstown

Police said thefts at Waringhall Place happened last month.

One victim, Pat McDade who is an SDLP representative, said he discovered the oil had been stolen at his home recently.

He had bought around £500 worth of oil a few months ago and he had checked it about a week ago. He said there was around £200 worth of oil in the tank.

However when he tried to put the oil on Thursday night, it didn’t work and he thought there was something wrong with his boiler.

After calling a friend to help him fix it, they discovered the theft. And after telling his neighbour, he also found out on Friday that his oil had been stolen.

Mr McDade said his neighbour had bought around £500 worth of oil just a few weeks ago.

“It’s not easy for anyone with the price of oil to have it stolen,” said Mr McDade, adding he had heard of third resident of the development who had been robbed of oil.

Police said: “Oil remains an attractive prospect for thieves during the winter months and with the price of crude oil remaining high.”
