Over the last number of years, Ulster Community Investment Trust (UCIT) has played a pivotal role in supporting the community and social economy sector in Northern Ireland.
Established in response to decreasing grant support from Government and to address the difficulties experienced by community organisations in accessing commercial loan facilities, UCIT provides community enterprises and charities with access to affordable loans. As a registered charity, all profits generated by the Trust are recycled for reinvestment into the community sector.
A number loans have been made to organisations within the Lurgan, Portadown and outlying areas.
UCIT supported Shankill (Lurgan) Community Projects with a loan to serve as part of a funding package for the development of a range of residential units for young people.
