Video: Work begins on new community centre in Bleary

Work began last week on the construction of a new community centre in Bleary at the site of the old school building.

The new £350,000 centre will be one of the first in Northern Ireland to encourage a co-operation between creative businesses and community groups.

DUP Councillor Margaret Tinsley who has been involved with the project said: “I spent Monday morning on site with a council officer reviewing the plans for the new creative community centre in Bleary.

“After three years of planning and consultation with Bleary community groups and the local school, it was exciting to see the workmen on site starting the project, which will be finished by the end of the year. This is a new concept within NI giving an opportunity to incorporate local creative business into a shared community centre.

“The staff within the development team have worked extremely hard securing funding for this project, which will see the old school building completely renovated and an additional extension. A great good news story for Bleary village.”

The project expects to use two thirds of the site, with the other third remaining for future council use.
