INJURY CRISIS

AS the injury crisis fails to ease around Mourneview Park, the key fixtures are coming thick and fast.
This Saturday will see the Blues coming face to face with one of the only two teams currently below them in the IFA Premiership table when they face Dungannon Swifts at Stangmore Park.

The currently manager-less side have started the season in poo
r form, not living up to their good form of previous seasons which saw them reach the Irish Cup final and gain Setanta Cup qualifications.

As so often happens in football, the club’s former boss, Harry Fay, was made to pay for his side’s recent bad run of results which has seen the club pick up just six points from their opening nine games.

However, back at Mourneview Park, Director of Football, Alan Fraser is worried about the lengthening injury-list and believes his side must concentrate on their own form if they are to get a positive result on Saturday.

“The most important thing for us is to get our own house in order and to make sure we don’t lose the game,” he said.

“That’s number one. If we pick up three points, it’s a bonus. We have to make sure we get it right on Saturday and that we work hard. The bottom six is going to be tight and it’ll be tough the whole way.

“At this minute in time we have to worry about ourselves and make sure we get players out on the pitch who are committed and how we’re getting a team out on Saturday I don’t know.

“I would imagine Tony Grant will be out. Mark Turkington’s still out and he’s hoping to get an injection in his knee. Gerard McMahon has to go to see a specialist and Gareth Scates is still two or three weeks away.

“He’s another player we haven’t seen anything of and if we can get these players back in the next month it’ll be a bonus for us.”

With star striker, Timmy Adamson recently returning to Dungannon Swifts from Linfield, Fraser remains conscious of the threat he poses but isn’t thinking about it too much.

“Adamson’s a good finisher. He’s proved that he’s a goalscorer but as I say I’m more concerned about what we do rather than the opposition.

“We have to get things tight at the back and make sure that we don’t concede. If we aren’t conceding I think we’ll always score a goal or two.”
