HOT on the heels of winning the Superkart UK Cup and two rounds of the British championships at Bishopscourt racing circuit recently James Irvine and his locally backed team has confirmed their intent to go all out and try and also win the British Grand Prix.
Racing in the 125cc class, although this years priority for James Irvine is to win the British Championship that he currently leads comfortably, James believes he has the pace to also take on the GP meeting.
At his launch announcement on Monday J
ames commented: “We were so much on the pace at Bishopscourt and in the recent British Championship rounds that we think the effort in going to Cadwell Park in mid July will be well worthwhile. Thanks to some terrific additional local support Mid Ulster Granite and Stone I will have the full team backup of Eurokart and Pavesi engines and that will undoubtedly give me the best chance possible of winning.
“Although kart racing is an affordable way to go racing, taking on such a major championship and the Grand Prix will be a big challenge. I cannot neglect of course the family run business and I’m really grateful to the help from my chief mechanic Derek Lockhart as both of us will be on the road a fair bit in the next few months.”
At James GP launch, Ken Rowe of Mid Ulster Granite and Stone Ltd commented: “I’m really impressed with the performance that James has had of recent and having been involved with the team all year we are only too glad to help out someone from the province that is starting to show some serious winning form”.
In the run up to the big meeting, James also hopes to be in action at Nutts Corner Motorsports Centre on July 5 when gearbox racing returns to the circuit.
Bringing home the British Grand Prix title would be a big thing, not just for James but also the province as the 125cc class title has had two previous winners from the province, so maybe James can make it a hat-trick.
